Rally the People and Hold the Fort! Jesus is coming!
Rally means: 1. To reunite; to collect and reduce to order troops dispersed or thrown into confusion. Verb: 1. To assemble; to unite. 2. To come back to order. (of troops) come together again in order to continue fighting after a defeat or dispersion: assemble in a mass meeting: bring or come together in order to support a person or cause or for concerted action: recover or cause to recover in health, spirits, or poise:
In the Bible, we find countless instances of God’s prophets, priests, kings, Apostles, women, our Heavenly Father, His Son and His Holy Ghost orchestrating the rallying His people the Body of Christ, the Church of God. Abraham rallied his trained servants and his allies to go and rescue Lot and all that pertained to him. Moses had to rally Israel over and over and over again. Joshua and Caleb rallied the people when they were afraid to stand up to the giants in the land but incredibly, they refused to trust in God. Joshua had to carry on without Moses and rally God’s people many times. The Apostles rallied the people in Jerusalem and sent out many letters and sent the ministry out to the Churches to encourage them and strengthen them in spirit and Doctrine.
After Jesus rose from the dead, He rallied the Disciples on the seashore to tarry in Jerusalem for the power of the Holy Ghost to descend to them from on High. We rally at local services, State Conventions and the General Assembly. Last year, we rallied at the grounds for our new Tabernacle. And I don’t know about you, but that strengthened me, and I went on the meat of that for many days!
In Nehemiah’s day, the people were rallied to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. But there were few of them, they were hindered by the enemy and faced dangers from the enemy. They were so few, this remnant, they were scattered on the wall. They held building tools in one hand and a weapon in their other hand. They were ready, instant in season and out of season-they were sober and vigilant. They were despised by the enemy, and the enemy did everything they could led by Sanballat to stop the people of God. But Nehemiah rallied the people! They had faith in God, they prayed, they knew their purpose was of God. They knew they were God’s people and just as with the Church of God-the gates of hell could not prevail against them because what God orders will be completed! Elijah got low in spirit, but his God rallied him! David got low after the Philistines attacked him and his people and spoiled them. His own people wanted to stone him, but David rallied himself and encouraged himself in his God!
While there were significant rallying points for Israel throughout the Bible, we find Esther, a Jewish captive, residing in the palace of a foreign land, and finding favor with the King. She rallied her people, the Jewish Captives, and her maids, to fast and pray for their worthy cause. But even Queen Esther had to be rallied or called to action by her Uncle Mordecai!
When Jehosaphat was King over Judah, Amon, Moab, and other nations came against Jehosaphat to battle. They didn’t know what to do, except turn to the Lord. Their eyes were on Him! When so many kings had trusted in the arm of the flesh, in other nations, in chariots and horses and men to save them, Jehosaphat led Israel to turn to the Lord with their whole heart.
2 Chronicles 20:12-14 “O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee. And all Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children. Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the LORD in the midst of the congregation; And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.”
God sends a message to the people as they are humbly assembled before Him. When we humble ourselves, God will honor that. He will honor those who honor Him and trust in Him! God encourages them and gives them details of the enemy and where they will be found to Israel. He gives them specific instructions on how to proceed. God said:
“Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.”
Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground with all Israel and they worshipped the Lord! They got up the next morning and Jehoshaphat encourages the people to have faith in their God- “believe his prophets and you will prosper.” Then he had a meeting with the Levites and he “appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever.”
22 “And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.”
The enemy destroyed one another! When Israel came to the battlefield, they found the dead bodies of their enemies and they took great spoil of riches that day! It took them three days to carry all of it home! Today, let us stand on the watchtower to see what our God will say to us! Be encouraged! The Church is established, Her Great Commander in Chief, Her Deliverer, Her Champion, Her Strength and Glory is alive, He is still risen and is rallying His Church!
Today, we are few, we seem to be a remnant, scattered on the wall with a weapon in one hand and a building tool in another. But let us not be grasshoppers in our own eyes. God is still in control! And soon we will find Satan and his forces seeing themselves as Sanballat and those who opposed Israel saw themselves- Nehemiah 6:16 “And it came to pass, that when all our enemies heard thereof, and all the heathen that were about us saw these things, they were much cast down in their own eyes: for they perceived that this work was wrought of our God.”
God turned their wickedness back to their own heads! As Nehemiah had the “one by him to sound the trumpet” in warning, we must stay close to Christ, listening for the sound of the trumpet. Whether the trumpet sound that calls us to action or the last trumpet sounding from God, that last great rally here-the Rapture, to meet Christ in the air, we must hold the Fort! For Jesus is coming!
